You will begin your task by investigating the links provided in order to gain a broader understanding of the Columbian Exchange. From your research, you should address the questions provided in the form of a research paper/report. Your project should reflect considerable time and understanding of both the positive and the negative side of the Columbian Exchange. Please consider the impact from an American, European, and African perspective. What was life like before the exchange, and how did it change in the years following the exchange. To what extent does the Columbian Exchange continue to impact the lives of people throughout the world today?
I have compiled a series of thought provoking questions to assist you in your investigation. Please use them as a guide to direct you in your studies. |
What was the Columbian Exchange?
The Columbian Exchange was the widespread transfer of
animals, plants, culture, human populations, technology and ideas between the
Americas, Europe, and Africa. The Exchange
relates to European colonization of the Americas, as well as the African slave
trade. The exchange involves both the
intentional and the unintentional movement of plants, animals, and diseases
from one continent to another.
The contact between Europe and America brought about a wide variety of plants and animal that had the effect of greatly increasing the European population, while at the same time decimating the population of Native Americans and Africans. |
